While this presentation is not eligible for CEUs, it was still a much-enjoyed presentation by attendees with valuable insights into carpal tunnel syndrome. The Q&A session was particularly spirited!

What is covered?

Dr. Michael Vender is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with extensive experience and leadership in hand and upper extremity surgery. The presentation covers the causation and evaluation of upper extremity disorders, including the diagnosis, treatment, and work capability related to carpal tunnel syndrome. NIOSH criteria for determining the work-relatedness of diseases and the importance of epidemiologic data in understanding CTS are discussed. The role of ergonomics in preventing discomfort, though not necessarily disease, is highlighted, along with the importance of on-site evaluations. Intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors for CTS are examined, including non-modifiable risks like family history and modifiable risks like body mass index. The presentation concludes with a summary of the necessary considerations for establishing disease and exposure, and the specific and job-related restrictions for individuals with CTS.
